Ridio was designed with privacy as a foundational principle. We do not collect personal data, we do not use analytics services, we have no proprietary servers, and we do not require account creation.
Data controller
The data controller is Riccardo Antonio Vaia, independent developer of Ridio.
For any privacy-related request you can write to support@ridioapp.com.
What data we collect
No personal data. Ridio does not collect, store, or transmit any personally identifiable information. There is no account to create, no email to enter, no profile to fill in.
Data stored on your device
Your favorite stations, recent searches, and app preferences are saved exclusively locally on your iPhone, in the standard iOS storage system called UserDefaults. This data never leaves your device, and is never transmitted to us or to third parties.
If you uninstall the app, this data is automatically deleted by iOS.
External services we use
Ridio uses the following external services exclusively to provide its functionality:
Radio Browser API
To provide the list of radio stations available worldwide, Ridio connects to the free Radio Browser service. When you search or browse stations, the app sends your request to this service. No personal data is transmitted, only the search parameters (e.g. name, country, genre).
Third-party radio streams
When you listen to a station, the app connects directly to the station's server to receive the audio stream. Radio stations are operated by third parties, independent of Ridio, which may have their own logging and privacy policies. The connection includes your IP address, as with any internet connection. Ridio has no control or visibility over how these servers handle their connection logs.
iTunes Search API and Deezer
To show the album art of the song currently playing, the app automatically searches for the image on iTunes Search API (Apple) and Deezer. Only the title and artist name of the track broadcast by the station are sent, exclusively for image lookup. No personal data is transmitted.
ShazamKit (Apple)
For song recognition Ridio uses ShazamKit, a framework built into iOS provided by Apple. The audio detected by the microphone is processed exclusively on the device to identify the song on air. Ridio does not record, store, or transmit any audio. Not even we can access it: we have no servers capable of doing so.
iOS signals microphone activation with the orange privacy indicator, a system-level protection Apple applies to all apps.
You can disable automatic recognition from the app's Settings at any time.
Apple Music
When you open a recognized song on Apple Music, you are redirected to Apple's app or service, subject to Apple's privacy policy.
Payments and in-app purchases
Ridio Premium is purchased exclusively through the Apple App Store. All transactions are handled by Apple, which applies its own privacy policy. Ridio does not receive or store your payment data.
Analytics and crash reporting
We do not use any analytics service (Google Analytics, Firebase, Mixpanel, etc.) and we do not collect crash reports. We do not know when you open the app, what you listen to, or where you connect from.
Cookies and trackers on the website
This website does not use profiling cookies or third-party tracking scripts. No cookie banner to accept.
Your rights
Under EU Regulation 2016/679 (GDPR), you have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict, and object to the processing of personal data. However, since Ridio does not collect any personal data, there is nothing to request or delete on our side. Data stored locally on your iPhone is under your sole control: you can delete it by uninstalling the app or using iOS data management features.
For any privacy-related question, write to support@ridioapp.com.
Changes to this privacy policy
If the privacy policy changes in the future, the update will be published on this page with the new "last updated" date at the top.
Governing jurisdiction
For any dispute related to the processing of personal data, the Italian courts shall have jurisdiction.
